Julia Cowie Associates DipTP MA MPH
I work for
the NDT in Scotland, for Values into Action and for Quality Network.
Having been Learning Disability Strategy Manager in Lanarkshire and Grampian, I
have experience in inclusive strategy development. I have also facilitated
participative research, stakeholder events and workshops with parents and people
with learning disability.
Recent work has included developing the Safe and Active training workshops
which are about being confident and keeping safe in the community. These have
been piloted with 6 self advocate groups across Scotland. A training pack and
video will be prepared and we are looking for funding to train trainers from
self-advocate groups in using the training material. The groups also took part
in the Scottish Executive’s Hate Crime consultation.
I am currently working with voluntary sector, local authority and health
partners on quality assurance, social inclusion, Direct Payments, person
centered
approaches and self-advocacy.
Previously I have held senior posts in housing, health service commissioning,
joint working and strategy development.
OBJECTIVES
My overall work objective is to ensure that people’s experience of public service is as good as it can be – accessible, equitable, of high quality, meeting need and engendering confidence.
